600 of our offices closing

starbucksI guess it only makes sense that these offices would be closing since we didn’t technically pay rent. Of course, in many cases we can just move the meetings across the street to the Starbucks that are not closing. I love working in coffee shops, not only does it beat rent (and saves you money) but it allows all sorts of input that can later be translated to creativity.

But now Starbucks has announced that they will be closing 600 of their stores. Can we learn anything from this? Hmmm…I think we can.

  • The hottest craze today could be the biggest loser tomorrow. Trying to keep up with these crazes, instead of being innovative and original, will usually put you behind the fad.
  • Just because people are filling the building today, doesn’t mean you should slow down your efforts. Impact is not a one time event, you should be building up to it each service.
  • There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Using moderation in events and programming generates interest, which creates crowds.

What other lessons can we take away from Starbucks…one of our homes away from homes.
