Happy Birthday Jesus

So a few weeks ago Carrie suggested we bake a birthday cake and sing happy birthday to Jesus as a Christmas tradition.

Really? A birthday cake? How many candles do I put on it? And what kind of cake do you bake for Jesus? Angel food cake? Did she forget I was the Jesus-Hates-All-Things-Cheesy guy?

But the more I thought about it, and the true meaning of Christmas, the more it soaked in. This should be a time of celebrating Jesus.

So, this Christmas begins a new tradition for the Buckingham household of throwing a birthday party for Jesus. Yeah, it’ll be cheesy, but I bet we laugh a lot and fill the room, with tree, presents and all, with much joy.

Are you in? If so, I thought I’d help you kick off your own celebration with these pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey-in-a-manger sheets.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

Happy Birthday Jesus!

And one for the kids to color!

True Story: Every year, my family (aunts, uncles, cousins, parents) spend Christmas in Marco Island, FL (southwest Florida). And every year we order a “Jesus Cake” from Publix. Last year, the bakery had no problem writing “Happy Birthday Jesus” on the cake. They also decorated it in frosting maracas and sombreros, thinking it was for a Latin boy, not the Son of God! Best Jesus Birthday Party Cake. Ever! Can’t wait to see what they come up with this year…
