Jesus Hates Papyrus

For those who followed the logo redesign, I hope you like what we’ve done with the cards.

papyrus cards

I’ve always liked the designs I’ve used for the business cards, but this design really took it to a new level for me. It was as if now that I had really poured a lot of personality into the logo it freed me to let that come out in our own design. It’s encouraged me to really embrace our brand.

Business cards have always been more of a necessity, but I really look forward to handing these out and seeing people’s reaction. I really hope they connect and even end up on people’s desk, bulletin boards, etc. Who knows, maybe people will even hunt me down to get a Jesus Hates Papyrus card.

Looking for your advice:
I did secure JesusHatesPapyrus.com (and .org), but I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them yet. I’ve considered using it for this blog (and drop holycowablog), what do you think of that? Other ideas?

And yes, it’s true. Jesus does hate papyrus (the typeface, not the fruit)…I even have scripture to back it up, but that’s for another day.

Love the blog URL idea. Cohesion. I’d vote for a blog move, if this were some sort of democratic exercise.

I do like that idea…honestly, I love the phrase so much that I just worry that there’s an even better idea or way to use it.

When I first saw it, I wondered what you had against the big company “Papyrus” that makes fine greeting cards, stationary, wedding invitations….but then I saw the tag line!

That’s hilarious Sherry. Nope, I think Jesus is still good with the wedding invites. :)

Ha, yes! I would totally hang this up on my inspiration wall in my office if you sent me one (or two… or three). Simply profound!

Haha…I think the fruit is “Papayas” ;)

    Awesome cards!

Seriously, you can’t drop the teaser and not follow it up… I’m curious as to what scripture you have backing this up. :)

Call me a fuddy-dud, but Jesus was the king of Love. Even He could love the demon-incessed font that is Papyrus.

But there’s a good question: If Jesus cast the demons out of Papyrus, what font would it turn into?

Papyrus is “paper” haha. Cool cards!

John, I knew it wouldn’t be too long for someone to point out that God is love. :) That doesn’t mean that he didn’t make his feelings known. I’ll do a follow up, but maybe not until after Cultivate and Story as that’s the first time I’m handing out the cards and will probably touch on why God Hates Papyrus then.

h3: close, but Papyrus is actually a plant (that they made paper from) thus the * at the bottom to clarify.

Brian: send me your address and I’ll send you some, or better yet drive down to Chicago in a couple of weeks and meet me at Cultivate.

Michael, yeah, call me Captain Obvious. Don’t get me wrong, I love the design and it fits the personality of you and the company perfectly.

Hopefully my previous comment didn’t come off badly. I was not trying to say your business cards are sinful or anything.

No John not at all…I just knew someone would point it out. Glad you broke the ice.

Maybe I should run a poll of what typeface Papyrus would become if the demons were cast out? Hmmmm….

I am going to be one of those people who wants to hunt you down to get one of these. I have a coworker of mine (pastor) and he insists on changing his e-mail signature from Myriad to Papyrus despite my strong suggestion not to. I would love to give this to him.

I am a reformed abuser. Photographers are one of the worse class of typography abusers thinking papyrus is “cool, hip and trendy”….

I was converted by being shamed into seeing the truth and now I am devoted to spreading the word. Let me know how I can help.

HA HA, back it up with the scripture! If Word of God was written with Papyrus typeface, I don’t think Jesus would mind at all. Especially the words in RED :) .

    Hey Michael,
who did your card printing? I love the rounded corners.

    • http://www.jesushatespapyrus.com Michael Buckingham

Thanks Aaron. I have a trade printer we work with. It’s also a really nice thick 16 pt. paper.

I’ve used overnightprints.com in the past, they also offer the rounded corners at good rates, heavy stock. Their corner is actually more rounded than these which can work well for some designs. If you use them though, give yourself plenty of time as I’ve had delays with them.
