“It’s Better To Be Down By Four, Than By Three”
That’s a quote from Eli Manning in an interview after winning Super Bowl XLII. At first glance it seems that he must have gotten hit too hard, after all a field goal wouldn’t be too hard to tie the game – but as he explained it he shows the brilliance of the thinking. For Eli Manning it was all about winning and a four point deficit forced them to use all they have and go for that win. A tie was not an option.
As I look at the church I see that we often get the job done, there are no big cracks to fill, attendance stays even…we have settled for the tie. Excellence in ministry requires a mindset of winning and that means putting off a mindset of simply not losing. Let’s not go for the tie, let’s live up to the full potential that God has put in us. It’s not as easy, but it will be much more rewarding, just ask Eli.
