I find this somehow changes my attitude towards a song I've previously been very moved by. Is that wrong somehow? I mean the song is still the song, the lyrics are still true... but the motivation behind their creation was certainly twisted... I dunno. I know God can use highly imperfect people and things for His purposes (e.g. King David), but I just can't enjoy the song as I did before knowing what I know now. I'd love some additional wise comment or insight here. A 40-year-old who quits and puts the savings into a 401(k) could save almost $250,000 by age 70. You're right, a believer smoking is not quite like a believer walking out of a strip club, but it does make one scratch one's head. You're right, we are watched...and a good reminder that others are watching us and testing this thing called "faith". It's the reason I quit smoking...well one of them. I knew it was a bad witness, and I didn't want a bad habit to be something that could cause someone else to stumble. Good stuff Joe. I just see attendance drop at church when the senior pastor isn't preaching and watch people act as if their pastor walks on water...I just think it's bad for us and them, it's sets us up for failure.
