Bravo Kirk Cameron

Ok, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Left Behind movies…they just weren’t the quality I think we should be pushing out. BUT…the upcoming Fireproof, from the creators of Facing the Giants, looks like it could be a winner. I’m also impressed that Kirk Cameron has committed to only kiss his wife…even on screen. I never understood (or I guess believed) that just because there are people with lights and cameras around that kissing the beautiful leading lady is nothing but ‘work’. Right.

So Bravo Kirk Cameron, set the bar high…I hope everyone’s done the same with the movie and will deliver something that is top shelf.

    I’m usually skeptical of Christian movies … “Facing the Giants” didn’t surprise me in the least with where it lacked in quality. But I have heard good things about “Fireproof.” A big group of us from church are meeting to see it tomorrow night.

    Sounds like the topic of a future blog post …

    The title graphic is trite and predictable. Suited for a marriage conference graphic, not a movie title. The movies storyline and underline message will carry the whole “Marriage” theme across so drop the cheesy metaphor graphic from the title.

    Christian content doesn’t need the icthus, pointed finger going heaven ward, or a bible image plastered on it to be validated as “Christian.” How about a well written, honest to real-life, well acted, decent budget, precision art directed, spot on cinematography, non “B” level movie production instead.

    You know, true quality. Not a redux of a 1970′s Billy Graham pseudo film.

    The site almost comes off as a parody of a real movie site. Think elegant, refined, sophisticated design, loose all the self-validating movie critic comments from the home page at least.

    This title graphic makes me not want to see it. I like kirk, he’s a stand up guy but the general marketing and design wrapped around so many Christian projects is just lame.

    Let the christian marketing machine begin. Watch the Fireproof book and Bible studies appear. It will be “40 days of blah blah” books, t-shirts, pens, wrist bands etc. It happens with ANY movie that can be jumped on. Remember the “Greatest evangelistic event in 2000 years” The Passion and any remotely christian movie since? Christian marketing clearing houses will jump on it and our mailboxes will be flooded. They are always looking for the next big evangelistic thing! But the most effective evangelism in the last 2000 years is the method that started 2000 years ago. People telling People!

    Regarding the movie, I’m so tired of “Christian” being synonymous with “second rate” that I’m not even motivated to go see movies like this anymore. The Left Behind series of books was just embarrassing, my sister uses them in her English Composition class to teach how NOT to write dialog. Can it really be true that the majority of the christian book-buying public reads at a 6th grade level?

    We have literally the greatest story ever told to tell, why can’t we do a better job of telling it? When I look at some of the low-budget secular stuff that’s still creative and well done, I can’t just excuse shoddy Christian productions as being due to inadequate financial resources. I’m with Von.

    I saw Fireproof this weekend and thought it was great. I think that every married couple should see this movie. I listen to all my married fiends talk about the things they struggle with and i think this movie really speaks to a lot of the struggles couple have. There were a few cheesy parts, but i think it was even a step up from Facing the Giants. I think a lot of people are skeptical of “Christian” movies, but i would say, “don’t knock it till you’ve seen it”.

    If you ask me he just wants attention by being the “best christian ever!!!:-)” Dude its a movie, not an office tramp. you can still be loyal to your wife even if you kiss someone onscreen becuase its just acting. Like saying “I love you” as part fo the script. He sounds like he would be a royal pain to work with. Note to self: If I ever make a movie for some bizzar reason, DONT hire Kirk Cameron.

    I think the title graphic is predictable, but I’m mostly able to get past that (so much of what’s popular in the film industry today is predictable anyway—unfortunately my expectations for excellence in film these days are low). It was all of the awful plays on words that turned my stomach. “It’s time to say ‘I do’ to Fireproof?!?” AAUGH!

    I think the title graphic is predictable, but I’m mostly able to get past that (so much of what’s popular in the film industry today is predictable anyway—unfortunately my expectations for excellence in film these days are low).
